DAY OF THE CANDLES

The day of the candles is on 4th February. This day celebrates the candles of the brotherhoods of the Pastora and the Asunción. The candles of the Pastora is celebrated in the Pajares and the candles of the Asuncion is celebrated in the centre of the village (Llano Square). This day the people make a JUA and after that they burn the JUA. There the people eat and drink a lot and talk with each other. When they turn on the candles, it's hot and the people sit around them.


PASTORA

For four or five hours in the afternoon, the people of the Pastora walk from Alameda to Pajares. When the people arrive in Pajares, they are happy and sing songs. People meet with their families . It is a special day where families spend time with their loving ones. Each family make a candle with a JUA. The families spend all the night singing, laughing,...
Some families sleep in their houses in Pajares and the candles finish at four or five o'clock in the morning. Everybody has fun

ASUNCIÓN

The candles start at twelve o´clock p.m in the Llano square. There is a tombola and the money that is collected is given to the “Monjas Del Pozo Santo”. The horsemen go out from twelve o'colck p.m to two or four a.m . There are also tapas, chocolate, and many more delicious things to eat. When it gets dark an orchestra starts singing, dancing... From time to time a person of the young group of the Asuncion says a number and the winner can get a handmade shawl .
